  1. No hard reference but from what I've read 25-30 feet seems to be the number
  2. Just keep in mind that silicone takes a long time to set but will remain flexible after that. Cleans off easily with rubbing alcohol if you get any where you don't want it.
  3. Gotta hand it to you Popeye.....you have a great 'eye' for this kind of thing. Looking good!
  4. Like some others, I rig as much as I can on the masts and yards off the ship. Blocks, eyebolts, footropes etc. But I rig the shrouds on the ship. I prefer to have the masts set at the appropriate angles and for this I use a light coat of flexible clear silicone caulk which gives some resistance while at the same time being easily adjusted by the rigging.
  5. Thanks for looking in folks. Real life has caught up with us since our return and it's been impossible to settle back into the shipyard. Pretty much ready to begin on the cannons in another week (+/-). Keeping up with everyone's progress has kept a smile on this old face. I SHALL return.........
  6. I don't know Ben. It may be a bit dark but it all depends on Mark's preference. I do agree, however, that blotchiness can be a problem with darker stains and the kit basswood. That's why I always use pre-stain on basswood and it really helps unify the color.
  7. JP, I keep looking at your drawing. Is 33 not the final layer of planking and actually consists of strips rather than a "large expanse'. ?
  8. Happy Anniversary! What is it about vacations that puts us all on our backs. We've been in the same boat since our trip. Glad to hear you have a Syren in the wings. Great build!
  9. Plenty of help on here for this one. Check out Rafine's and Dubz builds for real inspiration. And Chuck is always available to lend encouragement.
  10. Looking at your builds, yours can easily surpass mine. I'll be following along. If you haven't already, see the logs by Ben (Trussben) and RustyJ. They've been a real help to me.
  11. Best of luck on this kit, Sal. I'm sure you're going to enjoy the journey.
