On the subject of battle damage, none of my models are fresh from the builders yard. They are always after the first refitting and are always done in a very hasty manner to get them back in service. :D

Sweet planking, Augie.  So the side that's "not finished" will go out instead of against the wall?   I'm jealous.  My Admiral says the whole thing has to be "finished" as "we won't have any incomplete models here". ;)

Thanks Mark.  Yup, what my Admiral calls 'the hole in your boat' will be the display side as she has already determined she's going the wrong way.  Wait until she finds out the masts are only 4" high .  I'm doomed.  But it's all part of the plan my friend.  She'll be so relieved to hear that the next one, according to her wishes, will be fully 'complete' and set to sail in the right direction (even if it comes in at 40" +  loa).

A truly devious and wonderful plan, my friend.  I sit in awe of your Machiavellian skill.  On the 4" high masts... show here plans and say something like "they never made the masts higher".   ;)

Time for a short update.

The stern post and previously scribed hull moldings were added:

Work on the transom has begun:

post-56-0-29437400-1394231185_thumb.jpg

Here you can see that a double layer of 1/8 x 1/16 " planks had been laid on the transom wings.  The entire transom was then thinned (on the inside) to an overall thickness of 3/16".  This was a bit tricky but (once again) the pencil sander did most of the work:

We'll now begin to add the quarter galleries.

Nice looking stern Augie. I can't wait to see the quarter galleries. Your work is very precise. Hopefully the weather is starting to make a warmer turn in your area of the country. I'd like to hear some fishing stories soon.

Augie, are you going to plank the upper counter first before you start the QG's?

If you do make sure the curve of the planking matches the curve of the bottom of the transom and blends into the lower counter, or when you add the stern moldings it won't look right, see my log pictures for how not to do it!

Great work buddy.

Thanks Ben.  Yes, the upper counter has been planked.  Have been checking yours and Rusty's logs.  Added the QG bases and am trying to get everything lined up.  But first I need to thin those inside bulwarks.

Just a small update.

The upper counter has been planked and the transom painted black.  Scribed moldings were made and added to the transom.

post-56-0-28268100-1395021426_thumb.jpg

In addition, the bases for the QG were mounted, painted and moldings added:

I've worked on the white metal castings that go below the stern galleries getting them to sit properly.  I'll cover this when I get to mounting them.

Now it's time to thin the bulwarks from the inside.  Quite a bit needs to be removed and, since I don't relish this task, I'll be taking my time over the next few days.

Looking great...certainly take your time with that thinning down.  That is an important step.  Nothing worse than a very thick transom.    Try and get into those nooks and crannies.  It will pay huge dividends as far as the final model is concerned.   Take your time.
