No pressure on this site, is there?   :D

post-76-0-20454300-1384047334.gif I'm going to bow to pressure, even though it's against my better judgement.   I guess don't want Sjors to hit me up for piccy's.   :)

Here she sits with various implements of destruction lying about...  The black square is where the broken frame was.  Still have a lot of sanding and some re-working of joints before I cut gunports and lay in the ebony wales.

The black X's, in case you're wondering, are for the frames I can remove after the chain wale goes on.  A top rail fits in there.  I'm thinking about removing those early just in case she decides to implode/explode/self-destruct when I start removing the build board down the road.

Great photo Mark - really shows both how big she is, and how much work you've put into her already. Looking forward to some "serious" build time now - just as soon as the "honey-do" list is complete. ;)

Thanks Grant, John, John, and Sam.

Honey-do's are almost complete..... I hope.

Sam,

I've heard of it but only one time.   If the planking wants to "unbend", there's really nothing to stop it.   And the chain wale is the one at the top of the ports that chainplates anchor to... yes.. you're correct.

I got the cracks filled using Chris's method of finish and sawdust and then sanded with 400 grit.  I'm holding on the 600 grit sanding until the whole outside is planked.  All the gunports have been squared up per the drawings.  So far, so good in my estimation but it can be better.  I'll turn her and do the "not the wall side" and see if I can improve. I'll probably revisit some of this side after the other side.

I'm re-thinking my main wales. Only the top one will be ebony, the rest are blended in to it and the regular planks so I'll go with the swiiss pear and leave it natural for that.  At least the ebony that's there will help set the tone for the sheer.  A darn sight easier to work with.

I just realized it's been quite a long time since this has been updated.   So here goes....

Gunports have cut out, final shaped and the cracks between planks filled and sanded. The whole thing has been sanded with 600 grit.  I've cut the wales, shaped the bends and will, I hope, get them on by end of this weekend.  I'm testing some JB Weld "Wood Weld" epoxy to see how it holds.  As a backup, I have regular epoxy just in case.

I also found a source locally for MinWax Wipe On Poly which I'll use for a finish instead of the varnish I was planning on using.

Here's the pics.. an overall shot and close up just for kicks and grins. (Click the pics to enlarge).

If I don't get a chance to update this before then, here's wishing everyone a wonderful holiday no matter what you celebrate.  We'll be doing a quiet, low-key Christmas.  Just the three of us... and a fire in the fireplace.
