Edwin,

I'm sure Augie won't mind me answering on his behalf; that particular product is available from Micromark.

Hi Augie. Just got caught up and you've done a great job on a difficult area. I really like the window "glass" too.

It does add a really nice look to it. Well done and don't get distracted by outdoor work.  In the shop I say! :P

Love the windows Augie.  I'm going to try that on my next build.  Another issue with acetate is that it can be a little tricky to apply the glue and not get glue marks on the window panes - your technique avoids that (and looks better to boot!).  Thanks for the tip.

Augie nice job on the windows.... both the clear and antique looking glass look real good, I'm still trying to decide which look is best... right now I'm leaning a little more to the clear, maybe it's just because the latter would be hard to look thru..... but then again you have the model right in front of you, so you have a better look at it, which ever you choose  I'm sure will look great !!

The other thing you can try Frank is to use the acrylic but dye it very slightly to make its' presence more pronounced.  I used to do this all the time with airplane canopies.  Unfortunately, some of the newer acrylics will not take the dye so you need to experiment.  I use the old 'Rit' product you probably remember.  The brown or gray gives a nice tint.  If you try that, make sure your acrylic is super clean, the water is not too hot and you constantly check the color to see what you're getting.

Very nice work Augie,

How did you get along with the coving above the windows? Did you manage to use the basswood one? Mine broke before I got it out of the sheet so I remade with boxwood.

Yes Ben, I managed to used the basswood, kit supplied piece.  Wasn't easy and not done perfectly but should be ok.  It's really fragile.

The bulk of the heavy lifting on the stern and quarter galleries has been completed.  Here are a few different angles:

post-56-0-12183400-1396472776_thumb.jpg

The photo etched garlands and metal castings were finished with Model Master 'Wood' color (never claimed to have much imagination) then given a coat of clear flat acrylic.  We've already discussed the glazing.

post-56-0-03359700-1396472908.jpg

And now for the classic CONFEDERACY shot:

post-56-0-86530100-1396473064.jpg

Have a few things to add to complete the stern.  Neptune (he's at about 11 o'clock) needs his Trident, the gun ports need hinges, eyebolts and lanyards and there's a little touching up to carry out (one or 2 stern lights needs 'caulking').  That will all wait until I get the rudder and it's fittings mounted.

I have to fess up and admit I didn't think I'd get it to come out as well as it did.  But thanks to Chuck's design and a little care with all the alignment going back to the stern framing I feel pretty good about the way she looks at this point.

Augie - Are those decorations truly white metal? I had given up on making them look like wood. Maybe you have convinced me otherwise. Please tell me more.

Looks great Augie,

I did notice that you didn't reverse the scrollwork between the stern windows, but other than that a masterful job of it.

Now I can't wait to see your great cabin floor!!

Gee, step out for a few days and viola, mastery at work again. I do like that window finish, looks really good if you don't have an interior finished cabin to show off. I especially like the wood paint. can you give more details on that, I would like to purchase some. I think your stern looks awesome, all the details really make it pop!
