    Brings back memories. Years ago I built that model and had a ball. From painting to modifying the deck. As for the sails, they were well shaped and were given what I call a wash with a dirty paint solution from my brush cleaning bottle. I was in retail at the time and gave it to one of the salesman;s mother as a birthday gift. David B

    For a useful saw I have always liked Zona Brand. Great for delicate work and easy to find. the #35-500 is the one I used to use all the time. David B

    This should prove to be an interesting build. I have rarely seen bamboo used for model building. .David B

    One thing you should remember is that many veneers have a grain direction and your xacto blade may run with them. I have used a coping saw many times with a fine TPI when cutting from veneer. Or a veneer saw and a straight edge. David B

    I bought the kit years ago but decided the model was to big for me so I reduced the plans and scratched her using the book and Chapelle's Fishing Schooners which I consider the bible for this type of boat. And I found the transom a a nasty are to figure out. My problem is this kit is at a scale of 1/48 and I am building her at 1/96. Difficult to do but fun and challenging. Keep up the great work.     Elijah, just make a copy of my marker. It took me less than an hour to make with what I had at the moment. That way you can save a few dollars. I have faith in you to get the job done. First worry about your hull. You are doing a great job so far. David B

    Instead of removing it. How about jut adding to the top since it is to be fiberglassed anyway. David B

    Elijah, I got the veneer for next to nothing and the hull is painted so you cannot tell. When you are going for painting you do not need a fancy or expensive wood. I could have used some basswood planking I had but wanted something that was more durable and easier to paint. I was able to pull it out of the box to get a photo of it. Unfortunately a couple of years of neglect and then boxed means a lot of restoring it when I get to it. However here is a photo of what I am talking about, David B
