Thankyou Tom,  I have been using a travel iron and Chuck's edge bending method.

Slow is standard for me and planking, so I have a couple of othe builds on the go, to have the odd break from it now and again.

Edward, I'm just about to follow in your footsteps having just mapped out my wale runs. Now I'm scared! Awesome save you made by noticing your error in the wale runs. Your Winnie looks great and I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Phil, and everyone who has looked in.

Hopefully with the weather getting dryer and warmer here in the UK I'll be able to get Winnie outside and get stuck in to fairing the inner bulwarks so I can carry on planking!

I'm looking forward to getting to work on her again.

Well the sun has been out and the weather dry so I've been out on the backyard with Winnie for the last couple of evenings, taking the bulk of the inner bulwarks off, just a bit of fine tuning with the sanding sticks and its back to planking.20210325_214937.thumb.jpg.9ff9677425b7183c04089aae5f250190.jpg

this is as she is now20210325_202038.thumb.jpg.30bbfff031bc88eb17fdc19575b30ae2.jpg

You may have noticed that the Wales have not been double planked yet,  I've done this as I still have some sanding to do 20210325_203319.thumb.jpg.caac4050a812f1d619729b5f751faea3.jpg

and would definitely catch the wales, so once I have it sanded and smooth I will fit the wales and get some paint on them.

Thanks for the likes and your patience 🙂

Cheers

Hi everyone,

Still plodding along with the planking, working on 1st belt on the port side, slowly, slowly and hopefully getting it right.  There's a long way still to go.

Thanks to all for the likes 👍

Thanks Matt.

Hello again,

Small setback with the port side first belt, the transition to the stern counter did not look great, in fact it was an eyesore, some very unsightly bad cutting and gaps. The 5 offending planks have been removed,  I would like to have it at least looking the same or similar to the starboard. As many have said, the second attempt often goes better.

Thanks for looking in.

Cheers 🙂

After a hectic few months of work, sorting all the summer yard chores and a holiday away from it all, I'm finally back on Winnie, continuing with the planking.

I relaid the planks at the stern/counter transition, I'm  happier with the result. The hull has been re-lined for the remaining planking bands and the first one has been shaped to fit.

Thank you Fred,  I've been following your Winnie 2, I never noticed the 'winging it' bit. It does however look very good.

Thanks for stopping by 👍

Good evening,  I've completed another band of planking on the port side, and started the corresponding band on the starboard.

Also I had to rip some more 1/4" strips20210926_203351.thumb.jpg.b1da4891c2584e4e3d8f8d30799b8e84.jpg

these ones are my best to date, I think by the time I've done with planking the hull I'll be making some half decent strips😊

Thanks for looking in and the likes. I'll post some more photos when I've got a bit more to show.

Cheers

Well, with work and other pressing matters, planking is progressing very very slowly 🐌

I have two bands completed on the port side and I'm halfway through the second band on the starboard. 20211120_221450.thumb.jpg.58a31a4a43540c817413f1e26551ea2a.jpg

The transition from Hull to counter has been a trial, with several planks being removed, replaced and removed again. As it stands it's not the prettiest but it is smooth. 20211120_221516.thumb.jpg.68d51d6e81fd05c0715dce77f32a7652.jpg

It's going to be a fair while before I can flip her right side up😊 as I've reverted to using titebond glue because I got in a proper mess using CA.

Thanks for watching and the likes!

Until next time, cheers.

I feel I'm on the homeward stretch with the hull planking now, just two bands each on port and starboard sides. I've redone the lining out to reduce the risk of ending up with a narrow plank.20211211_230009.thumb.jpg.450c0c5a4bccb8627100f93320cd28eb.jpg

it all looks pretty even and symmetrical to my eyes!20211211_230044.thumb.jpg.677cee34d6eacb335038acf0d4b49486.jpg

just a bit untidy, but I'm hoping a good dose of sanding will go some way to rectifying that.20211211_230026.thumb.jpg.719f8d50d6d85ecfe4786e3a6908421d.jpg

especially at the bow!

Anyway, the last batch of planking is imminent, then it's onto the stern and QG's, which I must admit I feel a bit of trepidation at.

That's it for now, thank you to everyone for the interest and continued support.

Cheers

A belated merry Christmas to all, and looking forward to a better happy new year!

Thanks Ben, mine will be about the same when done.

Still plodding on with the planking, but now only 3 bands to complete.

I found working from the keel a pleasant change. 20211227_165237.thumb.jpg.0dbcf7ac04d9c374e4ff64a54c3dcd8b.jpg

working with wood glue is much less messy than CA but slower20211227_165223.thumb.jpg.212aa3d2bfc5a1ade9a277b81cecaffd.jpg

I reckon I've another month or so before I'm finished planking.

The piece missing from the keel has been knocked off when I moved Winnie and I decided to leave it off till I flip her right side up.20211227_165211.thumb.jpg.86370d4e5f764abaaf0049173bf14d10.jpg

Very neat! Slow and steady wins the race, something I'm learning for myself.

I've been plugging away bit by bit and slowly but surely moving ever forward to closing the hull in20220112_211348.thumb.jpg.ce1dc848147863c73172bdb6ca008ebb.jpg

the last plank to fit on the port side!20220112_215009.thumb.jpg.4f25d90ea586217de69faa14f281f00d.jpg

And done!

Just one more band of planking left on the starboard, then some serious sanding action and I can put the second layer of the Wales on.

Thanks for the likes and comments or just looking in.

Yay! Winnie's hull is planked!20220219_132557.thumb.jpg.d68c5e10ad2b48c3f34c3a4622f20e40.jpg

Once I've sanded it, I shall fit the second layer of wales.20220219_132512.thumb.jpg.25ce532b67be995f84efe186abc3bad0.jpg

I didn't darken the plank edges, for the caulking, I forgot to do it at the beginning and thought it would look odd with 2 thirds done, so forgive me for that lapse20220219_132610.thumb.jpg.4ec4505b41dcda205817e0db346a483d.jpg

This part could have been tidier, so I'm hoping the moulding strips will hide the worst of it😬.

I'm now waiting for a nice dry day to take her out on the back yard to sand her smooth.

Thanks for the likes, comments, critique and just passing by.
