Simply wonderful details Remco. I do think though, that you should show the drawers of the wardrobe open, just to prove they do. ;)

Wait for it.........................................

Remco,

I love the pantry.  Great detail.  Question...the lower hinge on the door appears to be on the sill, not the door.  Or is there no sill?

Did I ever mention palliasses? Did I? Well, you beat me to it, Remco. Now, about those fleas....

Joking aside, that is beautifully done. Congratulations!

Thanks for the kind words.

Maury, I had to make the door a bit longer, but now you're mentioning it, I probably better put the extension above the door. It does look a bit strange now. I fear taking the door out will damage the pantry, let me think about that.

Fleas Druxey? I thought I was a step ahead of you by adding the palliasses and now your starting about fleas. Boy where does this end..... ;)

Work moved to the outside of the hull. The knee of the head (made 1,5 years back) is now permanently fitted as I had to add the iron plates to the bottom of the hull.

post-20-0-45098400-1395951871_thumb.jpeg

I glued them temporarily in place to draw the outlines and then used a chisel to remove the wood so it fits flush to the hull. I'll remove them to prevent any damage to the plates.

This concludes TFFM Vol 1, a bit of a milestone, this took me 4,5 years to complete and still two volumes to go......... I hope everybody is patient enough to bear with me till the end (and throwing challenges at me will make the journey longer..)

Hi Remco. Congrats on getting true Vol 1. I have been following your build since you started way back when LOL. I haven't said much lately in your log because I just sit and stare at the pictures, just when I think you can't surprise us anymore you do it time and time again. I will be with you all the way to then end. I turn 60 in June and I will be counting backwards when that happens so I guess I will be a teenager when you get done. Keep the post and pictures coming. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.

WOW Remco, very nicely done, congrats with that excellent bit of mortising.  And you'll solve that door problem too, I'm sure.

Hmmmm, 4.5 years into it and still have do how many more volumes????  Well, at least that'll give me the incentive and a very good reason to avoid that famous bucket - - - so i'll not kick it  ;)  ;)

Thanks all for your kind words.

Sometimes you run into a part and had no clue that it would be that hard to make. The quarterdeck transom is such a part, looking rather unexciting. One redo and the better part of a couple of days work went into it. I had expected the counter timbers to be trickier but after watching Mark doing his Belona's counter with the help of a jig, I constructed a small jig that saved a lot of head aches. The mortises on the wing transom I had made light-years ago had to come off as the spacing was all wrong. Where would a shipwright be without his bottle of isopropyl :)

Hi Remco,

How did you establish the converging lines of the counter timbers? If they were to continue they should "meet" at a point at about the height of the Mizzen Crosstrees.

BTW - I had more than one attempt at this piece myself   .

  Danny

Dan: I think that two generations of model makers have been a little misled by Longridge's (correct) assertion that the lines of these timbers converge to a point somewhere in the air. However, the shipbuilders (and we modelmakers) have no need to actually figure out this virtual vanishing point.

All we need to know is the width across the wing counter and the spacing and sided widths of the counter timbers. We also need to know the width across the top timbers at the stern, then proportionally divide up that distance into the intervals and (now narrowed) sidings of the counter timbers. There is no need to figure out where that imaginary meeting point is.
