Sopwith Pup by Edwardkenway - FINISHED - Kartonowa Kolekcia - 1:33 - CARD

This will be my first serious foray into proper card kit models, as I've dabbled with free printable models with very little sucess😬

I have been following several of @ccoyle aircraft build logs, and the Paper Shipwright Puffer build by @AJohnson which all of which tipped me over the edge, and broke my resistance to buy a card kit.

Anyhow, with Mr Coyle speaking highly of this manufacturer, the order button was hit and here we go! Hopefully I can make a half decent effort of it.😊

Purchased with the laser cut parts from Draf Models Poland20220831_141603.thumb.jpg.c1c05c49e2bf062f779475834d6f79d7.jpg

I've started to glue the parts that need to be thicker. I'm using a Copydex type glue for this as I'm waiting for the 3m spray mount to be delivered. 20220904_212837.thumb.jpg.de97789bc116adc1e6896edd36414511.jpg

Also glueing the framework for the wings,20220904_212824.thumb.jpg.37e2aba9e619aa5b23f906c2dae99959.jpg

Ive found that my all purpose generic Stanley knife is a tad too unwieldy for cutting out the smaller pieces.  Obviously the order button has been hit again and a scalpel handle with no.11 blades(100) is on its way.

More will follow, so if you're watching thank you👍

Cheers

A bit of advice when you get to the cockpit framing: I have found that the KK frame parts (the printed parts, not the laser-cut ones) need to have the spaces between the dashed lines that indicate joints cut out, otherwise the the frame assembly will be slightly too large, which may cause exterior skin fit issues. It is even sometimes useful to remove the top layer of paper fibers from the laser cut frame in those areas as well. Check your fits often.

a toothpick, sanded to size and painted flat aluminium has been pressed into service.

I think a lot more practice on the rolling tightly is needed.

Well prior to MSW, the only ones I did were the “Vintage Car” series you cut out from the back of Weetabix boxes as a kid but that was a long time ago!

after quite a few dry fits and tweaks, and utilising the earlier advice from Mr Coyle😉, the cockpit was glued to the port side fuselage inner skin.20220908_212808.thumb.jpg.5340d4b538265df9287511b41231c693.jpg

It appears we are succumbing one by one. I'd say give it a go, it's really fun and as has been said, by Chris Coyle, there is no painting (Apart from edges)

I've added the details. These things were a little bit fiddly, and by the end my eyes were crossed 🤪😵💫20220911_222412.thumb.jpg.86ceb8f5c4ff477a0aedbbf1318e5d78.jpg

Agree with everyone above - looks great, nice job!  It's really incredible seeing what you and Chris and others are doing in card, especially with all the compound curves in the subjects you are modeling.

Ahem😏, that's where I've struggled! The curve on the front of the fuselage, hasn't quite got the form it should have, but I'll know next time.

So, tonight the rest of the fuselage skins have been attached 20220913_214346.thumb.jpg.8b253840e8c0be3e19348368469e6635.jpg

I decided to do the Navy version rather than the Royal Flying Corps20220913_214407.thumb.jpg.b07a6ca7fd5e6f11ba9fa27b292de0f1.jpg

Next was the step I really wasn't looking forward to, the engine cowl.20220913_214335.thumb.jpg.e13e4a97060bde0d8b1d63ba19823ede.jpg

As luck would have it, my glue stick was the ideal size to use as a former and stand.20220913_214534.thumb.jpg.3cb7227e62685a3ec3829d07aead73a3.jpg

And it fits perfectly with a test fit,a bit of touch up on the raw edges to tidy it up20220913_214525.thumb.jpg.1a68cf1757350e6876a982c05fecc583.jpg

and there is the dodgy curve on the fuselage,  not quite as rounded as I would have like around the exhaust area😬

But despite these little niggles,  I'm really enjoying this build.

Once again, thank you for hitting the thumbs up, comments  and just calling by.

Cheers

Thank you Chris.

Yes it does, I must say I'm tempted to buy another just to do the RFC version.

I shall contemplate it!
