Well, after 1443 hours over 608 consecutive days,  she's done !!!!!!!!  Here are the photos, some of which will appear in the Completed Ship Gallery later today:

Please note -  as the original photos were lost in the disc corruption issue in March, 2014, I've posted these replacements (the only ones I still have available:

Now, as we used to say at back work, the job's not done until the paperwork is complete.  So here are a few comments I'd like to make regarding this voyage.

I'd like to thank Chuck Passaro once again for designing this kit and following through to have it kitted by Model Expo (who did a fine job as well).  Chuck's plans and instructions truly set the standard for future kits.  They made it possible for a relative novice like myself to actually complete his first POB fully-rigged ship.

But beyond even that, I wish to thank all here on MSW (1.0 and 2.0) for their interest, participation, critique, patience and advice during the journey.  There is no way to mention everyone here.  But trust me, there were several times I was caught in a fog bank listening to waves crashing against unseen rocks...and you folks got me through it.  And for that I shall be ever grateful.

Yes, I let the log go astray at times with the inclusion of cotton fields, frogs, spiders, fish, airplane and even moose.  But I think we had some fun along the way.  MSW became an almost daily ritual and, as much as I enjoy watching everyone's projects, successes and failures, what I really enjoyed was the friendship, camaraderie and downright concern for one another.

My skills improved along the way --- and I've learned an awful lot I was completely unaware of.  I am proud of what you've helped me achieve and now at least know what I can do better.  Many of you know I'm primarily an R/C aircraft builder and pilot.  What you don't know is that this was to be my and last ship model.  But things have changed.

I'll be building Syren's case over the next few weeks, have a week long annual fishing trip just around the corner and will be spending most of September overseas.  So the shop will be quiet for a bit, the sense of accomplishment almost overshadowed by the sadness that the build is over.  But I still have my friends here.  And I'll be watching.  Always cheering you toward victory ---- and sometimes giving you the business :D  :D .

And the shipyard shall once again find itself beneath a cloud of sawdust when the next project begins in the fall.  And that project will be -----

CONFEDERACY !

Until then, everyone be well and..........    STAY THE COURSE !!

Hi Augie,

I know many of our friends here will send along a well deserved “Well Done!”

on a truly wonderful build and a riot of a build log. Having built her too I fully

understand the sense of accomplishment and pride you have and it is well deserved.

Great choice in the Confederacy and I eagerly await the fun to start again when you get to it.

Enjoy your time fishing, travelling and building the case. I look forward to seeing

ya building back here soon.

Again great job! :pirate41:

A wonderful tribute my friend. I couldn't have said it better. I hope that my Morgan can be just somewhat close to your Sirene, and if I can accomplish that then I will be more than happy. You give us something to strive for and set examples beyond belief. Your sense of humor, encouragement and help have kept many of us on the path to keep working on these things and to realize that with the same perseverence that we too might be able to say that we're Finished! Your pictures are fantastic, thank you. And thank you for this entertaining build log, enjoy your fishing, bend an elbow, and if you're like me you always have more empty beer cans than fish. Watch out for moose, and enjoy just admiring the hard work and accomplishment that you have achieved....we'll all miss hearing from you for a while, but you deserve a break. Well Done, and Godspeed!

Wow Augie,

Congratulations. You did a animaatjes-smiley-met-bordje-66050.gif

Your Syren looks absolutely gorgeous.

You may be very proud of yourself. animaatjes-smiley-met-bordje-33598.gif

And a big thank you for a wonderful and entertaining buildlog. I enjoyed it.

Call me lazy for quoting myself. But I am proud of you.

And just like Bob a little sorry that you are not going to build the Essex.

But I wish you you a great time and happy modeling with the Confederacy.

Rest me to say:

Have a nice fishing trip, enjoy making the case and have a safe and great vacation.

See you in the fall.

Say Augie, since you are into rc planes also, I have a Byron P-51, complete with all accessories and options, as well as a Quadra 50 engine, purr power, engine reduction system, full retracts. It is 1/5 scale, and if I recall without looking it has an almost 8' wingspan, and 6' fuselage, 24" 4-blade prop, Futaba 6 channel readio. I will unfortunately never get around to building it, and I do not have room for it if I did. I'm reluctantly interested in selling it if any one is interested. Just something to tempt you with.

You have built yourself a true masterpiece! We'll all miss this log and all ints little side journies, but we will all be back to join you when you start the Confed. And if you think that log will be free from fish, moose, worms, spiders and frogs............then think again my friend!!!

Augie ...

what else can I say about your ship model? Our MSW-mates have already told everything good, and I don't know new congratulation words. I can only stare your amazing pictures, hoping to see soon the beginning of a new challenge. You've spent a large amount of time on this ship,  time that has been a very good investment.

Have a good holiday, skilled shipwright (...oops .... Commodore...) !!!
