Attachment of Ratlines to shrouds

Tom, That's a viable method. The best thing is as B.E. pointed out... do a test and see which looks better to your eye. -

Wonderful work, Jack. I do hope you stay well as it's not easy being the caretaker for those who get the flu.

Jim, Lovely work on that bowspit. I think most of us go from stern to bow for standing and then repeat for running rigging. Rigging from bow to stern means the rigging for the stays, etc, get in the way. The catch of course is... whatever works for you is the right way. As for the connections to the bowspit (red) for the questioned rigging, probably a rope collar. Lee's only mentions those lines being seized to eyebolts in the hull/stem. Hmm.... what I'm not seeing is anyway to adjust the tension on those lines... The ones in green were siezed to a heart/thimble that was attached to a rope collar.

It's great to see an update... She's very striking and what Nils said.. It's incredible what you do with paper.

I'll add that you really don't want the boat anchored when it's run it's bow on the bank. Debris floating downstream would create some serious problems if the stern couldn't swing if hit.- 281 replies

The Constellation isn't small by any means Doris and it is a 3-mast vessel. That is if we're speaking of the same Constellation.... I've got a build log on the AL frigate kit that I bashed into the sloop of war. The AL kit represents the bastardized version that sat in Baltimore before it's restoration to the sloop of war that it actually is/was. I have link to my build down in my signature.

Charlie, On the coamings... will they be set into the deck planking or on top of it? You might want to lay some dummy deck planking (don't even need to glue it down) to check the height of the coamings. I'm not even going to try to sort out the carronades as I've not run into any yet in my builds to have given them thoughts..

The easiest way is to paint the rigging with some matte varnish or use a 50/50 mix of white glue and water. I use the glue/water myself but.. some types of line shrink so test first.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
