Thanks very much Keith, Glen, OC, Jack, Yves, Mark and Ken, and also to all of the 'likes'.

I didn't quite get around to posting the final "glam" shots yesterday, so here they are. There are quite a few, so I'll split across several posts, starting with the overall "spin" shots.

That completes the series of "glam" shots and brings this project to a close. I'd like to thank all of you who have followed along and offered support, encouragement and advice along the way. This has been a most enjoyable diversion into this style of modelling and I've learned a lot along the way. i do have another of these kits in my stash (Foss's Landing), but I've got a ship or two to build first.

Stay tuned for the next exciting adventure!

Finishing the Diorama – the Water (cont’d)

So I acquired some AK Water Gel Effects (AK8007) and applied this with an old fairly stiff brush. The effect I was looking for was that of a gentle breeze across the water surface, with occasional clear patches of no breeze.

As this is my first attempt at this process, I would appreciate some further feedback and/or guidance/tips to improve the appearance. Are the "wave lines" too distinct? Would I be better off using a more "stippling" method to remove/reduce the line effect? The good thing about this product is that I can add more to change the effects.

Here is the first attempt.

Hi Grant, I just Love your Diorama here, you are a true Artist and Craftsman.
What scale is this, and all the little 'accessories' everywhere, did you buy them on the Net.
Ha Ha, just noticed, yea the heading Text, 1:87  or HO ..............:)

Thanks Wayne,

Yes, it’s HO scale (1:87). The only ‘accessories’ I bought were the figures and the blue truck, plus some extra track, sleepers and ties. Oh, and a little grass/shrubbery. All bought online.

Awesome! Seeing your work sent me to the Sierra West site where I settled on the O scale Sawmill Project. This one-man manufacturer, Brett Gallant, gives superb customer service at a level not experienced by myself, ever.

This is quite a different kind of modeling than I have done before and I look forward to the many hours it will take to construct. I'll look to your build for relevant tips and techniques. I will probably post a log on the S.W. site so as to benefit from the experience to be found there, but may show periodic progress here at MSW, as Chuck and admins. don't seem to mind posts of non-ship builds.

Thanks for the inspiration, Grant. If I can do half as well, I'll be happy.

Just as an aside, this model was awarded the “Members Choice” award at the recent Canberra Model Shipwrights Society Annual Expo. It is one of two awards given each year, the other being the “People’s Choice” (as voted by members of the public). A bright spot in an otherwise difficult year.

Well earned, the diorama looks absolutely fantastic. There are so many details to catch the eye. I wouldn´t have guessed it´s HO scale, had you not written it.
