Getting oh so close to done now -- ailerons, stabilizers, and tail wheel added. Really only four things left to do, one of which is the propeller, which has 23 parts. Next update will probably be the Big Reveal.

Gun barrels?

Not included in kit.

Nor would they be if it is a true F4F-4.... First off the -4 only had 4 machine guns, second they didn't protrude past the leading edge...

All those pics of supposed F4F-4's on the internet that show protruding gunbarrels also show the gun in the outer wing panel making a 6 machine gun variant, probably an F4F-3...

They has blue tape they would put over the gunports during maintenance...

Three pics of Wildcats, F4F-4's on Guadalcanal in '42, and one from the Grumman factory ramp...

F4F-4_Wildcat_with_running_engine_on_Guadalcanal_c1942.thumb.jpg.678c76e775290ee2a7816cadbe5106d7.jpgGrumman_F4Fs_on_Guadalcanal_1942_NAN1-93.jpg.ec6c2e62f6ba5defa3ac6e183b0190ef.jpgGrumman_F4F-4s_Henderson_Field_1942_NAN1-93.jpg.9d530be5158436acd6d86ebd0f9a2ddd.jpgComparison_of_F4F_Wildcats_with_and_without_folded_wings_c1942.thumb.jpg.730854ee08744dae1572e0c632b24f7c.jpg

And a couple from the US Navy early in the war when the distinction was plain before they began modifying them wholesale...

Aboard the USS Wasp, Atlantic '42 (mostly dash 3's) and aboard the Hornet at Midway.... (you can see both F4F-3's and -4's on the deck of the Hornet)

f4f_wasp_1942.jpg.9958e54272679caf88b0505f3091dea0.jpg22008388_1482939671754293_795416535090612748_n-741x588.jpg.aa33d632e4742dbbbb848810826607b8.jpg

Most of the pics clearly show the wing gunports taped...

I would say the kit is fairly accurate for an early war -4 Wildcat...

She's got a real nice weathered finish.

The artwork is by Marcin Dworzecki, who is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Andrzej Halinski. Based on a vague post made in a Facebook group, I suspect the two men had some sort of falling out, which may partly explain why no new issues have been forthcoming from Halinski for several years now. In addition to coloring this design by Mr. Janukowicz, Marcin has been doing the art for designs done by Lech Kolodziejski and Marek Pacynski

Come inside the cockpit and fly the Wildcat with one of my favorite local guys, Kermit Weeks. If you go back and watch video parts one and two, he gives a great walk-around and explanation for all the aircraft features. He cranks like crazy at the beginning to raise the landing gear. It was a lot of work flying one of these old birds as you will see in the video. A lot for the pilot to pay attention to and do.

The Big Reveal!

I'm not going to say much about the trials and tribulations of installing the canopy (ugh!) and the antenna aerials (ugh -- again!), because I don't want to scare off any potential card modelers. 😋  But, she is done now and has a seat on the shelf of honor next to the Oscar -- how fitting! Next up, I think I will drag USS England out and force myself to do some more work on her.

Enjoy the pictures!

This was his response to my sharing my build pics on FB. He's the only guy that has commented so far, and he's the same wet blanket who nitpicked on my Hellcat build. Sheesh -- some people! 🙄

Chris, just consider the source and ignore it. I think if he had half a brain it would be lonesome.

Congrats on another great model

He only has half a brain cause the back half took the front half out and played with it, then he lost it.... I wonder if he knows how much he is showing he doesn't know? {chuckle}

Great looking bird, Chris.   Don't sweat the trolls and just give them the attention they deserve which is none.
