Mark, thank you for your kindness. I'd like to show you some parts of a small table saw I used to make. It's all designed to make widgets. Because you can't buy these things. You have to make them yourself.

Interesting tools you've made and thanks for showing them.  I'd like to suggest you open topic on your tools in the Tools area here:  https://modelshipworld.com/forum/18-modeling-tools-and-workshop-equipment/   I think more people would see it there.

Brief update.   I'm still planking (rather slowly it seems) but with the Sphinx coming in tomorrow, I've put the Hen away for now and spent the day cleaning up the shop and rest of the place.   I'll continue to work on her while doing the Sphinx.  So here's where the build is... I have about 6 more strakes to do on the hull then I can turn to the stern.  She's not sanded or filled below the wale but I'm happy with her.

Hey Mark, I don't know if you had seen this already, but there is a custom builder in France that makes complete sets of naval cannon for some of the Boudroit Monographs, of which one is the 1/48 Belle Poule! The set is 100 or 120 Euros, depending on whether you want the 1758 or the 1766 pattern and the barrels are metal. They look pretty good! Link:

Go to the "L'Artillery" page. Good thing you remember your high school French ...

Thanks Frolick.  I saw that site but I'm building at 1:64.  He is doing nice work.   I ended up buying some guns from Chuck and since they'll all basically be hidden, I think they'll be ok.   I may have to tweek the muzzle. though.   Currently, she's on the back bench waiting for me to get my Sphinx kit finished.

High School French?????  Sadly I didn't take French. But Google Translate is my friend.

Time to continue work on this gem maybe?

Aye, it indeed is and I have been.   Shop has been cleaned up, Belle Poule plans hung and work has started.   I did remove about 10 strakes on each side as I wasn't happy with them and have been putting them back on.   With the smoke from the fires and other things going on in life right now it's rough to get any shop time.

I hear that.  Over in Brownsville, the air has cleared considerably; it was absolutely disgusting for a while tho.  I hope your other life things are able to resolve.  It's frustrating when life mandates that no modelling can be done.

Ditto. Too many things to do and too little time!

The air had been mostly clear in Corvallis - just a bit of smoke a few days ago. We were really lucky after the lighting storms last weekend. Six fires started west of Corvallis, but there was no wind and a tiny bit of rain. Four of the fires were out the next day, and the other two close together were quickly surrounded and put down, limited to 12 acres. And of all things they packed in a sprinkler system - in an old growth forest on a steep mountainside. That was a new one on me!

Well... I think the Arms of France are about done.   Needs some tweeking on the left side still but for now, I'm putting it away to work on some planking and hope my eyes uncross.  At a "normal" viewing distance it looks pretty good considering it's size.  Still have more carvings but.... need a break.  I may decide to re-do the carvings later on once I've have my mind cleared as there are some things I think I could do better and I need to stop comparing them to the 1:48 scale work I've found on line.

I agree, Mark - this carving is quite small, and you made a very good and representative job of it.

We are all works in progress, all of the time.

I've re-looked at the carvings that have completed.... I hate macro shots as they much better just using the eyeball. :D

Believe it or not, all the way down here in Petaluma, CA, (Sonoma Wine Country north of San Francisco,) we've had "spare the air" days and the elementary schools kept the kids indoors at recess time a few times last week because of all the smoke from the fires up along the California/Oregon border. We're no strangers to wild fires down here. (We lost over 3,000 tract homes in one in nearby Santa Rosa in the 2017 Tubbs Fire, California's most destructive in history... so far.) I can only imagine how bad it is up there for you guys. Your fires have been burning for a long time now! Keep safe!

Posted

Thanks Bob.  I'm doing what I can to stay indoors.   I thought the Alemeda fire we had a few ago was bad and it was but while there's none near me, it's just been very heavy smoke.   We had some nice off and on rain the last two days and today, minimal smoke but the crews and water bombers are still working hard down along the border.

It's so nice I've spent next to no time in the shiop today and probably won't tomorrow.

Proof of life and work post.    Still re-working the hull planking but not ready to show anything.   However, I did take the last week or two to build the ship's boat.  I re-used the plans and laser cutting drawings from Licorne as they're the same.   So here's photos of the boat.  This little beasty is only abot 6" (15 cm) long. At some point I'll decide if I want more boats or just let it go at the one.

Back to working on making myself happy with the hull planking.
